Star Trek-Stargate Crossover
Have you ever wondered how often folks from one sci-fi show crossover to another one? I know people have written a number of fan fiction to this effect. But what about the actual instances – were there any similarities? Take Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Can I find any actors from the earlier show popping up for a Chevron Five lockdown?
Colm Meaney
Trek fans will remember
Am smuggling in Geniihim as Chief Miles O'Brien in TNG. He's the feisty transporter operator who doesn't back down from a fight. He's a noteworthy character in a lot of Trek episodes but the one pushed towards fame was The Wounded. That's when he heads over to talk some sense into a blood-thirsty ex-boss.
Can you remember him from Stargate? Avid fans will recall the Genii; those creepy, trigger happy group from the Pegasus Galaxy. When you first come across the men in starchy uniforms, they are lead by a man called Chief Cowen. That's good old Meaney and he played the leader with an fervent desire to take over the Atlantis.
John de Lancie
What's this about a worm?It is hard to miss him in TNG. He was that irritating know-it-all being called Q with a lot of strange powers. He could manipulate certain aspects of human surrounds (e.g. time). He also wreaked havoc on Picard's life. To be fair, he appears rather fond of the classy captain later on and even dons a “hello there, buddy” air whilst around him.
If you are a Stargate fan, this is an easy guess. He is the notorious NID character called Colonel Frank Simmons. While Maybourne had some redeeming qualities, Simmon was the devil personified. He interfered countless times in Stargate affairs and even shot O'Neil in one backstabbing maneuver.
Marina Sirtis
Would you believe it? Deanna Troi, the ship's counselor and resident empath is one of the crossover characters? As you all know, Deanna is the human face of the Enterprise. At any given occasion where folks were shouting about who killed whom at what battle, she would help out by slowly nudging the issue in shades of gray. Or by trying to read their emotions, whichever helped the most.
She could read his mind
So where was she in the Stargate series? I must admit, much as I had seen the series a few times, I didn't notice this until I checked her filmography. She plays a Russian scientist by the name of Dr. Svetlana Markov in Season 4 (episode seven, “Watergate”). This is that freaky instance where the team ends up at a Russian-run base where their innocent dabblings with a second gate landed them in planet full of 'living water'.
Dwight Schultz
This is another memorable face from TNG. He plays the part of Reginald Barclay who is a recurring actor in a lot of episo
Fidgety as everdes. He is twitchy, nervous and brilliant at what he does. There were a number of episodes featuring him, most notably when he saves weird worm-beings caught in the transporter beam. He also rubbed shoulders with Picard in a major episode where they fought off Professor Moriarty.
But can you spot him in the Stargate series? Like Sirtis, he also pops up for just a single episode. It is one of the mind-warp instances from season 2. It's called The Gamekeeper and you guessed, Schultz is that very man. He's the one who creates and monitors a virtual world for his followers whilst he tends to the real world.
Ronny Cox
He was the love-to-hate character from TNG called Captain Edward Jellico who unceremoniously
I used to be a Starfleet officer, dammit!gave Capt. Picard the boot. Actually, he sent the good captain on a vital mission which ended up in a drawn out torture session. All in all, at least his intentions was good. Furthermore, at least people did warm up to him later on.
If you are familiar with the recurring character of the gate travel series, then you know who this is. He is senator Robert Kinsey, the man everyone hated and with due reason too. He is the annoying politician who represents everything Stargate was fighting against. At least, he went against the beliefs of the main characters. Furthermore, he did have a penchant for trying to do medical experiments on Teal'c.
