A big fan of Guillermo del Toro, I am wholly in love with the Hellboy films. They are stunning in visual effects, packed with action, and Pearlman and Blair are a treat to watch. If you’re looking for creature-packed fantasy-action movies to just get sucked into, this is the series. But like any other movie, the Hellboy series has its bloopers, blunders and mistakes! A product of del Toro, it naturally doesn’t have all that many—but they’re still there. Here are some of the most noticeable ones:
In the first Hellboy film, we learn that Red’s weapon of choice is a revolver he calls “Samaritan.” It’s show to be able to only hold four rounds—but he’s able to fire off at least six without reloading during his first fight of the movie with the creature Sammael in the museum.
When Kroenen kills two security guards at the museum, they flip as they fall, landing on their backs—this causes their feet to bounce while pointing upward. In the next scene, the bodies are facing down.
In the scene where Myers is bringing Hellboy chili, there is a black cat approaching the side of Red’s bed. The scene pans back and forth between Myers and Hellboy again, and when we see the cat again it’s no longer black but black-and-white.
This one is rated as one of the top bloopers of 2004: Hellboy tosses Manning out of the door so he’ll be saved from the pendulum on the bridge, but he barely makes it under as the door is closing. But then Hellboy spends a whopping thirty seconds dodging the pendulum himself—still managing to escape under the door himself!
During Professor Bloom’s funeral, while it’s raining, no rain falls in the center of the picture—where the camera blocks the rain.
At the end of the movie, Liz isn’t wearing clothes—or at least a top—when she’s on the altar. After Hellboy kills the behemoth, it’s magically back on!
In Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the location of BPRD headquarters has apparently changed from Newark, NJ to Trenton, NJ as the sign changes from one movie to the next.
When the golden army awakens, the picture zooms out to reveal just how huge the army is; but during the zoom, Princess Nuala and Prince Nuada disappear from the shot. When it zooms back in, they both magically reappear!
