Angelina Jolie: Great actress or well marketed?
Angelina Jolie earning that humanitarian title.Angelina Jolie is best known for her role as… adoptive mother and homewrecker for stealing Jen Aniston’s man, Brad Pitt. But let’s take a look at the career of the tabloid favorite. She has an Oscar for her role in The Changeling, a film about a woman in 1920s Los Angeles whose child is kidnapped. LAPD, in all their grace and tact, give her a replacement kid counting on her grief to fool her. Needless to say she spends the movie trembling, screaming and rocking back and forth.
Beyond that, she was recently pictured on the poster for some film I will never, ever see, called Wanted, where she is seen hanging out the window of a sports car with two guns. Everyone knows that to be a true humanitarian you must endorse a criminal lifestyle, violence and gun use. Possibly her most famous role ever was in the cultural lynchpin and standard-setting classic trilogy Tomb Raider.
To be honest, I’m not sure why the world is fascinated by this woman. Her roles, for the most part, are simple testosterone driven action flicks carried more by the gunplay and fast moving cars than by any script quality. A Mighty Heart was good, but who could mess that story up? I think she was hunting for her first Oscar win with that one but it never got much attention. Probably her most important role came in the TV film Gia, based on the up and down life of the model, who died of AIDS. All in all, she’s had a good career, I just think the pedestal she sits on is a bit high for someone who is famous for adopting African kids and doing action flicks. At least there’s hope for fellow thespian Megan Fox to win an Oscar.
