Terminator SalvationTerminator SalvationTerminator: Salvation is one the biggest films of the summer. After the disappointment of the third outing, Rise of the Machines, fans were hopeful this big budget event would bring the series back on track. It has been released to mixed reviews and the film probably generated more publicity because of male lead, Christian Bale’s outburst on set.

  • 2000's: A Cinematic Decade in Review (part 2)

    Add Comment

This decade has basically been split in half when it comes to the kinds of movies that have made it to the silver screen. The first half of the 00's went decidedly to pure entertainment. It was all about super heroes, high fantasy, special effects and broad laughs. A few art films sneaked into the lineup, but it's apparent that American audiences wanted jokes and escapism in what turned out to be a rather dark period in our culture. The shift to heavier material in the second half of the decade indicates a recovery period. Stateside movie-goers have been more willing to embrace darker, more complex stories as of late. Looking at the films I've selected for the second part of this list, it all seems so cathartic in retrospect.

  • 2000's: A Cinematic Decade in Review (part 1)

It's strange to think that there are only five months left in this decade of ours. It's been a strange one as far as the movies are concerned. There have been a few great pictures and loads of not-so-great releases. Studio budgets have gotten huge and CGI has become the gaudy, glaring centerpiece of the industry, usually to the detriment of the art. Looking back at each year since 2000, the worthwhile films stand in a sparse crowd when set apart from the otherwise disappointing offerings of the decade. Let's look back at some of the most important films of each year in the 2000's.

  • Trivia about Stargate SG-1

    Add Comment

Stargate SG-1 was one of the best science fiction series of the past few years. Alright, so we had BSG but I was more of a hardcore gater fan myself. SG-1 was a series that did a great job of portraying scientific concepts and issues. Plus, like all self-respecting proper sci-fi series, they covered a lot of ethical issues. Of course, there was also a lot of space battles and pending apocalypse type of disasters. Well, I wanted to mention a few trivia facts about the main characters from the show. This week I will cover Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge and Michael Shanks. Next week, it will be Don S. Davis, Beau Bridges, Ben Browder and Claudia Black.

  • Bill Murray = Comedy Genius!

Bill Murray in StripesBill Murray in StripesI was watching the AMC channel the other day and they were running a Bill Murray marathon!  I never realized how clever Bill Murray was until I recently watched Ghost Buster’s again (I had not watched it since I was like 10 years old), although I have always loved him in Groundhog’s Day.  While the marathon was going on, right before they would put the movie back on, there were little tid bits of information from other actors, directors and producers that had worked with Bill Murray.  Every single person who had talked about Bill Murray said he was a genius.  What he did with the minimal amount of direction the directors gave, or the way he popped into his character or the way he interacted with others on screen was just amazing.&nbs

  • Deep Throat

    Add Comment

Depending on your view of history, Deep Throat is a culturally iconic phrase from politics or from porn. Released in 1972 and starring such classic porn personas as Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems, Deep Throat was the first porn film to achieve national notoriety, reportedly making millions of dollars after being made for a mere $25,000. A little outside of the normal Movie Trivia topics, but too good to pass up.

The FBI released documents under the Freedom of Information Act this week revealing a nationwide FBI investigation into Deep Throat and an active campaign involving high level FBI administrators, including Mark Felt, later known as the Deep Throat informant in the Watergate scandal that brought down President Nixon.

  • Hellboy Bloopers

hellboyhellboyA big fan of Guillermo del Toro, I am wholly in love with the Hellboy films. They are stunning in visual effects, packed with action, and Pearlman and Blair are a treat to watch. If you’re looking for creature-packed fantasy-action movies to just get sucked into, this is the series. But like any other movie, the Hellboy series has its bloopers, blunders and mistakes! A product of del Toro, it naturally doesn’t have all that many—but they’re still there. Here are some of the most noticeable ones:

In the first Hellboy film, we learn that Red’s weapon of choice is a revolver he calls “Samaritan.” It’s show to be able to only hold four rounds—but he’s able to fire off at least six without reloading during his first fight of the movie with the creature Sammael in the museum.

  • Die Hard... Laughing

When my husband and I were watching Live Free or Die Hard (again) over the weekend, he suddenly shouted, “Look! Look!” I jumped, figuring there was a big spider next to me, but he was pointing at a bloody Bruce Willis careening an 18-wheeler down the streets of Washington, D.C. In one scene, Bruce—or “John McClane”—is smashing into a car, causing damage to his vehicle; in the next, the big rig is unscathed. Bloo-per!
